Step 10 in your homebuying journey: Maintaining your investment! 🏠🔧 Congratulations—you’ve made it to the final step in our homebuying series! While the purchase process is complete, the journey of homeownership is just beginning. Regular maintenance is crucial to protecting your investment and preventing costly repairs down the road. Creating a maintenance schedule can help you stay on track and budget appropriately for future updates. Many first-time buyers forget to account for ongoing maintenance costs when calculating what home they can afford. What you qualify for on paper may strain your budget when you factor in these essential expenses. This is why CDCU helps buyers understand the full cost of homeownership before purchase, not just the mortgage payment. As a nonprofit community resource, CDCU continues to support homeowners long after closing. Our homeowner education programs can help you understand maintenance priorities, plan for major expenses, and navigate any challenges that arise. Remember: Every dollar spent on preventive maintenance can save money in future repairs! Thank you for following our 10-step homebuying series. If you’re just starting your homeownership journey, join our First-Time Homebuyer Class on June 4th to learn more! Link to register in bio. #HomeownerTips #HomeMaintenance #HomeBuyingJourney #CDCU

We’ve shared our top tips in this reel to help make your transition smoother. As a nonprofit community resource, CDCU’s support doesn’t end at closing. Step 8 in your home buying journey: Signing documents at settlement! ✍️🔑 After all the preparation, inspection negotiations, and paperwork review comes the big day—closing on your new home! Our past client Oscar, shares his experience at the closing table. While the document stack might look intimidating (yes, you'll sign your name 50+ times!), this 1-2 hour appointment is the final step before you get those keys. What to expect at closing: ✍️ You'll meet at the title company office ✍️ Your realtor and/or loan officer may attend ✍️ You'll need identification and a cashier's check/wire confirmation ✍️ The settlement agent will explain each document ✍️ You'll sign mortgage notes, deeds, disclosures, and more ✍️ Once complete, you'll receive your keys! As a nonprofit community resource, CDCU is there for you even on closing day. If you have questions about any documents, we're just a phone call away. Step 7 in your homebuying journey: Reviewing your Closing Disclosure and completing the final walkthrough! 📝🏠 The Closing Disclosure is one of the most important documents you’ll receive—it outlines EXACTLY what you’ll pay at closing and the terms of your mortgage. By law, you must receive it at least 3 business days before closing. Many first-time buyers find this document overwhelming with its detailed breakdown of loan terms, payments, closing costs, and fees. That’s completely normal! As a nonprofit community resource, CDCU offers a valuable service many people don’t know about: document review assistance. Our housing counselors can sit down with you to explain what you’re signing and help you spot any discrepancies before closing day. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about ANY items you don’t understand—this is a major financial commitment, and you deserve complete clarity. Want to learn more about the entire homebuying process?
