- … impact-focused programs that make a meaningful difference to each person we serve based meeting people on where they are, listening and understanding individual needs and circumstances, and working toward personalized solutions.
- … collaborative working as a CDCU team, with our clients, and with other public and private partners, in order to generate the best outcomes for those we serve and develop long-lasting relationships across our community.
- … being a resource for our community that helps connect people to the programs, products, services or tools they need, whether these are provided directly by CDCU or through other community partners.
- … continuous innovation that tailors our programs, products and resources to evolving community needs and changing market conditions.
CDCU history
The Community Development Corporation of Utah (CDCU) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1990. Our organization has since grown to be a major provider of affordable housing and associated support services throughout the state of Utah. We build new single-family and multi-family housing, as well as rehabilitating existing housing stock to help preserve the supply of affordable units.
CDCU is also a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved housing counseling agency. We provide a variety of critical community services, including financial education and case management by certified counselors, homebuyer preparation coaching, financial assistance to help ease mortgage and down payment costs, and lending products to try address market gaps. Everything we have done over the last 30+ years, and continue to do each day, is designed to help low-to-moderate income families remain financially stable and with a place to call home.
Our organization has built or rehabilitated over 400 homes throughout Utah. By forging a unique partnership with HUD, we have become one of only five organizations in the nation to administer the Asset Control Area (ACA) program. Through ACA, we purchase all HUD-foreclosed homes that fall in critical revitalization areas in Salt Lake and parts of Davis County. We then rehabilitate the homes and resell them at or below market value to income-eligible families. To date, we have rehabilitated more than 100 of these homes, and we have helped more than 4,000 families in over 125 Utah communities become homeowners.
